Safety Information and Site Preparation
Before installing the TNS Three Phase Stabilizer, make sure the incoming utility power is turned off. Installation should be performed by qualified personnel only. The stabilizer is designed for indoor use and is safe for operation in a clean and dry environment. Ensure adequate clearance exists on all sides of the unit for airflow. Blocked airflow will decrease the lifespan of the unit.
Choose a mounting location that is as close as possible to the load to be protected. The shorter the cable run the less voltage drop will occur, and installation will be cheaper. The mounting surface should be fire resistant and sturdy enough to support the weight of the stabilizer. Use appropriate anchors for wall mounted units and ensure floor mounting units are stable on the floor. Do not install the stabilizer where the following exist: flammable gases, excessive dust, or water is dripping.
Wiring and Connections
Remove the front cover with the enclosed tool and examine the input and output terminals. Connect incoming three phase to L1, L2, L3 and neutral as identified on the terminals. Connect the outgoing cable to the T1, T2, T3 and neutral on the terminals. Make sure that all connections are secure; otherwise they will arc and may cause a power disturbance.
If the unit comes with a bypass switch it will be installed according to the diagram inside the cover. The bypass is for temporary operation directly off utility power during maintenance and should only be used in accordance with directions. Connect the external earth ground to the facility grounding system with the appropriate size wire. Operator safety and surge protection requires grounding. Check the enclosure before closing for any tools or scraps of wire or packaging and remove them.
Startup and Voltage Adjustment
With no load on the output circuit breaker, close the input circuit breaker. The digital display will be powered on and will immediately show incoming voltage. Allow one minute for input voltage to stabilize and confirm that it is within the operational range of the stabilizer. The green light for power on should be illuminated steadily.
Close the output circuit breaker or switch for the load. The stabilizer will automatically regulate and display the incoming and outgoing voltage on the screen. The outgoing voltage should maintain a very tight tolerance. The setpoint may be adjusted if necessary, in the programming menu using the buttons. Use caution when using the menu parameters and adjust the voltage set point incrementally. It is important to familiarize yourself with each parameter before changing it. When the stabilizer is using the servo motor adjustment mechanism the contactor may make an audible noise; this is normal.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
The TNS Three Phase Stabilizer does not require much maintenance. Inspect all electrical connections at least once per year and tighten if necessary. Use compressed air to blow dust out of the ventilation passages and cooling fan once per year or as necessary. Listen for bearing noise or contactor chatter; these are indications of wear or potential failure.
Check the input circuit breaker and incoming voltage if the stabilizer fails to properly regulate. Alarms for over voltage, under voltage, or loss of phase will appear on the digital display; these can be identified with the code table located on the inside of the cover. Contact a qualified technician for service if the above does not resolve the issue. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit. Do not attempt to service it without proper training. Keep a maintenance log to record all activity and alarms.
